2 killed in Gulistan, including US expatriate: Arrested police officer remanded

At Gulistan in the capital Dhaka, a bus hit a pedestrian and seriously injured him. A policeman was seizing the bus and taking it away. But two people were killed by the pressure of the bus on the way!The incident took place on the road in front of Gulistan Sergeant Ahad Police Box around 3pm on Thursday (December 30).

The deceased were identified as Shukur Mahmud Babul, 56, and Raisul Kabir Tushar, 35.
Golam Mostafa, the elder brother of the deceased Shukur, told reporters that Shukur had been living in the US since 1987 and was a citizen there. He came home to Narayanganj from there two and a half months ago. In the morning he came to Gulistan from his home in Narayanganj for personal work in Dhaka.

DMP’s Motijheel division deputy commissioner Abdul Ahad said a policeman was injured when a Shravan Paribahan bus crashed. Then the driver of the bus and his assistant escaped. After that, the bus was driven by an ASI and moved to a safe place, but the brakes failed and it crashed again. Two were killed.

Witnesses said the bus hit several rickshaws and motorbikes and pedestrians standing on the road.

Dhaka Medical College police outpost inspector. Bachchu Mia said that when the Paltan police first brought Babul, the doctor declared him dead. After some time the snow was brought. He later died while undergoing treatment.

The deceased was working in the commercial section of a garment accessories company called Tushar Dream Plus International. His home is on Khandaker Road in West Jurain.

A court has granted a two-day remand to ASI Emdadul Haque, who was arrested in a case filed by the DMP’s Paltan Police Station in connection with the deaths of two people while trying to remove a bus involved in an accident in Gulistan. The information was confirmed by Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Paltan Police Station Mohammad Salah Uddin Mia on Friday (December 31) afternoon.

He told the media that Tushar’s father had filed the case as a plaintiff in the morning. A case has been filed with Paltan Police Station under two sections of the Road Transport Act. Later, ASI Emdadul Haque was arrested in the case. He also said that the court had granted him a two-day remand.
