Attempt to kill freedom fighter: Order to send the municipal mayor to jail without granting bail

Cox’s Bazar: A court has ordered to send Municipal Mayor Maqsood Miah to jail without granting bail in a case of attempted murder of freedom fighter Amjad Hossain in Maheshkhali.

Cox’s Bazar Chief Judicial Magistrate Alamgir Muhammad Farooqi’s court passed the order on Wednesday (January 26) at noon, said Mohammad Mostafa, the plaintiff’s lawyer in the case.

Accused Makshud Mia is the mayor of Maheshkhali municipality and convener of Maheshkhali municipal Awami League.

The plaintiff in the case is Amjad Hossain (8), son of late Lal Mia of Gorakghata area of ​​Maheshkhali municipality. He was a former commander of Muktijoddha Sangsad Maheshkhali Upazila Unit Command.

On the night of November 24, when freedom fighter Amjad Hossain was returning home from Gorakghata Bazar of Maheshkhali Municipality, when he reached in front of Leader Ship School and College, a group of people led by Municipal Mayor Makshud Miah attacked him. He was seriously injured.

After treatment at Cox’s Bazar Sadar Hospital, injured Amjad Hossain filed a case against 25 people on November 26 against Mayor Makshud Mia as the main accused.

Lawyer Mohammad Mostafa said that 20/25 people led by Municipal Mayor Makshud Miah attacked freedom fighter Amjad Hossain on his way home on the night of November 24 due to a dispute over ownership of shrimp farm in Maheshkhali. He was seriously injured in different parts of the body including the head. The attack was carried out on him (Amjad) with the intention of killing him.

Amjad Hossain, No. 27, filed a case against 25 people with Makshud Mia as the main accused in the case. Earlier, Amjad Hossain had also filed another case against Mayor Makshud for looting fish from the opposition shrimp farm.

Later on December 15, Mayor Makshud Mia was granted anticipatory bail by the High Court for six weeks in both the cases. On Wednesday (January 26), Cox’s Bazar Chief Senior Judge Alamgir Muhammad Farooqi surrendered to the court and applied for bail in the last two cases.

The plaintiff’s lawyer said that the court had ordered to send freedom fighter Amjad Hossain to jail without granting bail in the case.

Cox’s Bazar police inspector Chandan Kumar Das said the accused, who was not granted bail by the court, was sent to Cox’s Bazar jail in the afternoon under special police security.
