Fisheries and Livestock Minister Sham Rezaul Karim has urged the filmmakers to be vigilant so that Bengalis’ own culture is not lost in the name of ultra-modernity.
The Fisheries and Livestock Minister made the call while addressing the closing ceremony and award ceremony of Cinemaking International Film Festival 2021 at the International Mother Tongue Institute at Segunbagicha in the capital on Thursday (January 7) evening.
At that time, the Minister said, our Bengali culture, Zari, Sari, Bhatiali, drama, film, Jatra, Pala songs should survive. So that we can say we are Bengalis. May our Bengaliness survive in the film. We should not sell our existence in the name of ultra-modernity.
Noting that Bangladesh is moving forward in every field on the occasion of the birth centenary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and the golden jubilee of Bangladesh’s independence, the Minister said that one of the areas to move forward is culture. And films cover a large part of the culture. In the age of sky culture, when cinema halls are about to close, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has announced incentives to keep it alive. He is providing necessary assistance for the modernization of the cinema hall. He wants the art and culture of our country to survive.
Mentioning that the film is an impeccable creation that sincerely portrays the life events, he said that the actors, directors, producers and the crew are the architects of the film. The film that is being made through their joint efforts shows the way to our nation. An actor or actress can touch people’s lives by acting, which ordinary people cannot. For this reason, it is highly commendable that the film is being honored at home and abroad.
At this time the chief guest further said that such life-oriented dramas and movies have to be made which can last for eternity. Despite the aggression of foreign subcultures, there are still people of good taste in our country. I would like to see a movie of that good taste, where the reality of life can be presented vividly and extraordinary creations can be brought to the fore.
In the closing ceremony, the heroic freedom fighter and independent Bengali radio station word soldier said. Manoranjan Ghoshal was given a lifetime achievement award. The chief guest handed over the award. He later handed over the crests and certificates of the awardees in different categories.
