Dhaka Medical College (DMC) Hospital staff and students chased each other. A hospital employee named Johnny (38) was injured in the incident. The commotion in the hospital caused a frightening situation among the patients who came to the hospital.
This volatile situation continues from 11:30 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. on Monday (January 10).
Earlier, the fourth class government employees of Dhaka Medical College staged a sit-in in front of the principal’s office in protest of outsourcing of manpower at Dhaka Medical College at 10 am as per the advance program. When the staff went to enter the college in the morning to carry out the program, the campus was blocked by the BCL and the police. At that time, they clashed with the members of the campus Chhatra League. At one point it went to the patients’ ward.
After the situation was handled by the college principal Prof. Tito Mia and hospital director Brigadier General. Senior officials including Nazmul Haque. Police members also tried to control the situation.
Zakiul Islam Fouad, general secretary of Dhaka Medical College Chhatra League, said, “On the occasion of Bangabandhu’s return day, while giving flowers to the portrait of Bangabandhu in front of the college, some fourth class people standing there attacked us.” The hospital authorities have assured us that they will take action against the culprit.
Meanwhile, the president of the fourth class, Abu Saeed, said that there were fights and clashes with the students during the sit-in program in front of the college as per the earlier announcement demanding cancellation of outsourcing. One of our employees was injured in the students’ injuries.
Dhaka Medical College Hospital Deputy Director (Acting) said. Ashraful Alam said there was a misunderstanding between the staff and the college students. Later the situation calmed down and everyone was sent back to work. If anyone is guilty of this, action will be taken against him.
