Homeopaths want to write ‘Doctor’

In a letter issued by the Department of Health, the National Committee for the Protection of the Interests of Homeopathic Medicine has demanded the withdrawal of the directive not to write the name of the doctor before the name of the homeopathic physician.

The demand was made at a press conference held at the Nasrul Hamid Auditorium of Dhaka Reporters’ Unity on Monday (January 18). Sheikh Md. Iftekhar.

In a written statement at the press conference, Iftekhar said that section 29 of the Bangladesh Medical and Dental Council Act 2010 may only apply to allopathic physicians, dentists and persons involved in allopathic medicine. Section 29 of the BMDC Act 2010 does not apply to homeopathic physicians in Bangladesh. Because the homeopathic treatment and education system of Bangladesh is governed by the rules and regulations of The Homoeopathic Practitioners Ordinance 1983 issued by the government.

He said that various sections of Homoeopathic Ordinance 1983, Section 12 of Drug Control Act 2018, Section 23 (2) of Veterinary Council Act 2019 (Proposed) and various sections of Homoeopathic Medical Act 2021 have been issued by the Cabinet. According to the order, notification and policy, the registered homeopathic doctors of Bangladesh reserve the right to use the title of Doctor (Dr.) before their name. The issue is nationally and internationally recognized and accepted. Homeopathic doctors from different countries of the world including India and Pakistan before their name. Uses surname.

He further said that recently the Deputy Director (Law Branch) of the Department of Health had named the homeopathic doctors before Dr. A memorandum was issued stating not to use the surname; Which is extremely sad and unwelcome. Because an appeal has been accepted in the High Court in that regard and is pending for disposal.

He demanded immediate withdrawal of the memorandum issued by the health department. I request you to refrain from taking any action and comment on the use of surname.
