Nasum-Mehdir brought fighting capital to Bangladesh

After Shakib Al Hasan and Tawheed Hriday got out against India, the fear of collapsing around 200 sat on Bangladesh’s neck. The Tigers avoided that threat late on, with the batsmen of the lower order. Nasum Ahmed, Sheikh Mehedi and Tanjim Hasan Shakibra gave a fighting capital of 265 runs to the representatives of red green.

Shakib Al Hasan played the highest run innings for the Tigers at the Premadasa Stadium in Colombo on Friday (September 15). He scored 80 runs from 85 balls, Hridoy scored 54 runs from 81 balls. Towards the end, Nasum Ahmed scored 44, Sheikh Mehdi scored 29 and Tanjim Shakib scored 14 runs. Tigers scored 265 runs after losing 8 wickets.

Bangladesh started the game by hitting four in the first ball. Tanjid Hasan Tamim hits four at square leg off Mohammad Shamir. Bangladesh scored 5 runs in that over. In the next over of Shardul Thakur, Tamim scored 8 runs alone. Tiger opener Liton Kumar Das has always been on fire against India. Fans expected him to do great again against Team India in the Asia Cup Super Four. The batter disappointed the fans. He returned to the pavilion today with zero runs.

Shami picked up Liton Das in his second over. The Bangladeshi opener was bowled out directly by the Indian pacer. Just 2 runs come off Lytton’s return over. Tagore picked up the ball again at the other end. He made Tamim a victim on the first ball of that over. Like Lytton, he was bowled directly. Tamim scored 13 runs from 12 balls.

Unable to cope with the shock of losing 2 wickets, Enamul Haque Vijay also gave away wickets. He was caught towards midwicket off the second ball of Thakur’s third over, narrowly missed by Tilak Burma. However, Bangladesh got four runs from that shot. Bangladesh batsman dot the third ball. His next ball while playing the bouncer gave the catch to the wicketkeeper Lokesh Rahul.

After that, Shakib and Miraj started to handle the pressure together. Meanwhile, Mirage gets two lives. Once Tilak Burma failed to palm the catch, another time Suryakumar Yadav dropped the catch. But he could not survive from Rohit. It was only when India started attacking with spin that Mirage started to panic. He made the fear come true and got out for 13 runs. He was caught by Rohit Sharma.

After losing four wickets under pressure, Tawheed Hridoy came to the crease. Shakib Al Hasan formed a partnership of 101 runs with him. Shakib was around the century. But after that he said goodbye to Shardul Tagore. Shakib departed after scoring 80 runs. His 85-ball innings had 6 fours and 3 sixes. Shamim Hossain left shortly after.

Hridoy started spinning the wheel of run with Nasum. Bangladesh had high hopes for their beautiful shots. But after scoring 54 runs, Shamir took a hearty catch to the boundary rope. He hit 5 fours and 2 sixes in the 81-ball innings. After Hriday was out, there were fears that Bangladesh would stop around 200. But with the bat of Nasum Ahmed and Sheikh Mehdi, the red green representatives avoided that fear. Beating Shardul-Shamid, Nasum went very close to his half-century. But he got out for 44 runs by Prasidh Krishna. Nasum hit 6 fours in 45 balls as well as a six. Sheikh Mehdi scored 0 runs off 0 balls.
