People panicked because of the fight between the BNP leaders and workers, said the Information Minister and the joint general secretary of the Awami League. Hasan Mahmud said, “BNP is playing politics of blaming the government to cover up their chaos. I urge them to avoid it.”
The Information Minister exchanged views with journalists on contemporary issues at the Minister’s residence on Minto Road in the capital on Friday (December 24) at noon.
He said this when asked by reporters about the BNP’s allegation that police opened fire on their rally in Habiganj without provocation.
The information minister said, “Wherever the BNP holds rallies across the country, they fight on their own.” Before Habiganj, all the shops in the area were closed for fear of the way they had fought in the chairs of the rally called on the occasion of their Victory Day in Sylhet. In other words, the people are terrified because of the fight between them. The same thing happened in Habiganj. There, too, the police had to take action to stop their chaos and fighting, and nothing else.
Mentioning that BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Saheb is not saying anything about his fights, Hasan Mahmud said, “Mirza Fakhrul Saheb has to shout to stop the commotion that takes place at different times in the BNP meeting.” The chaos in front of the secretary general of a big political party is a public shame. I would urge Mr. Mirza to avoid the politics of blaming the government to cover up his own chaos.
Broadcasting Minister. Hasan Mahmud expressed deep grief over the loss of life in the launch fire at Sugandha river in Jhalokati. At the same time, he said, the government will investigate and if anyone is found guilty in this case, he must be brought under the law.
Before the start of the rally in Gazipur, there were incidents of quarrels and clashes between the BNP leaders and workers. When BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir started addressing the rally as the chief guest on Friday (December 24) afternoon, chaos ensued. The BNP secretary general got angry.
Fakhrul said the rally was held in Gazipur after a long 15 years. If you want to be truly independent, if you want to regain democratic rights, you must be disciplined.
Secretary General said, what does history say? Sirajuddaula had thousands of troops. Only a few hundred of Lord Clive’s troops defeated Sirajuddaula. Ikhtiyar Uddin Mohammad Bakhtiyar Khalji defeated King Lakshman Sen of Nadia with only 16 horsemen and conquered Bengal. That is, if you are not an orderly force, if there is no discipline among you, the war cannot be won with mere emotion, with slogans.
He said today’s crisis is not only of Begum Khaleda Zia, not of BNP, not of Tarique Rahman, this crisis belongs to all people. In such a situation we have to build our team in an orderly manner. Be prepared to accept sacrifices for a larger movement. We have to organize the people and take them to the field. All in all, we have to bring order and carry out anti-government movement with the people.
