voting begins in 28 UP Comilla, 135 risky centers

The fourth phase election of 26 Union Parishads (UPs) is being held in Comilla’s Adarsh ​​Sadar, Brahmanpara and Chauddagram three upazilas with enthusiasm and anxiety. Additional police have been deployed at 135 risk centers. Members of Ansar, RAB, BGB and other forces are working with the police force. There are 40 executive magistrates in the field. Besides, the administration has all kinds of preparations for fair, free and fair elections.

According to the district election office, six chairman candidates have been elected unopposed in three upazilas. Among them, there are 3 candidates for boat symbol and 1 independent chairman candidate in Sadar upazila. On the other hand, two chairman candidates of Awami League have been elected in Chauddagram upazila without any vote. However, in 6 UPs of Brahmanpara upazila no one was elected without voting. As a result, a total of 128 candidates are contesting for the post of chairman in the remaining 20 UPs of the three upazilas. However, in most of the UPs, the boat candidates are fighting with the rebels.

Eight candidates are vying for the posts of chairman in Kalirbazar and Amratali UPs of Sadar upazila. Among them, 4 rival candidates for the post of chairman in Kalirbazar are the current chairman and vice-president of Upazila Awami League Md. Sekandar Ali, candidate for boat symbol Nurul Islam, independent candidate and Kamal Hossain, son of former general secretary of Union Awami League Abdul Haq and former chairman late Ali Ahammed.

In Amratali UP, the three contesting candidates for the post of chairman are incumbent chairman and vice-president of the upazila Awami League Kazi Mozammel Haque, independent candidates Nazrul Islam and Rubel Ahmed.

Umme Muslima, assistant commissioner and executive magistrate of the district administration, said 40 executive magistrates, led by deputy commissioner Mohammad Kamrul Hasan, were working on the election field to make the election fair, free and fair.

District Superintendent of Police Farooq Ahmed said 1,700 members of the district police were working for free, fair and non-violent elections. There are other forces besides him. Additional members have been deployed in about 135 risk centers. Necessary steps have been taken for fair elections.

Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Kamrul Hasan said the administration is working in the field with various forces including police, RAB, BGB and Ansar. Hopefully there will be a free, fair and non-violent election.

According to the EC, in the fourth phase, a total of 46,572 nominations were submitted for the three posts of chairman, reserved women member and general member in the UP vote. A total of 4,918 people, including political parties, have submitted nomination papers for the post of chairman. Of these, 3,546 submitted nominations as independents. 9,750 people submitted nomination papers for the reserved women member posts and 31,604 for the general member posts. After scrutiny, the nomination of 3,614 candidates for the post of chairman, 9,513 candidates for the post of reserved women member and 30,107 candidates for the post of general member was declared valid.
