World Alzheimer’s Day-2023 is celebrated with the theme ‘Never too early, never too late’. The day was celebrated at the National Institute of Neurosciences and Hospital in Agargaon in the capital. Awareness rallies and scientific seminars are held on the occasion of the day.
World Alzheimer’s Day celebrations began on Wednesday (September 20) at 10 am with a colorful rally at the National Institute of Neurosciences and Hospital. This was followed by a scientific seminar as part of the awareness program at 12 noon.
The president of neurology department as the main speaker in the seminar. Maliha Hakim presented pictorial report and research work. There he emphasized the importance of celebrating Alzheimer’s Day and various awareness issues about the disease. Dr. Maliha Hakim said, ‘Alzheimer’s is a neurodegenerative disease. Generally people above 60 are more affected by this disease. But many are affected at a young age. The main symptom of this disease is that the affected person’s memory becomes very weak. Various functions of the brain also disappear.

Many go to the market and forget why they went to the market or get lost in a familiar place. Many times a person who walks also defecates on his clothes. In that case, the affected person should consult a doctor. Alzheimer’s is usually hereditary.
Professor Dr. Maliha Hakim also said, ‘A person suffering from Alzheimer’s slowly moves towards death. It is an incurable brain disease. However, if the disease is diagnosed at an early stage, treatment can stop the deterioration of the disease within 3-8 years. We are researching the disease. Much of this disease can be cured by developing social awareness.
