Imran Khan cannot speak against state institutions

The court ordered former Prime Minister Imran Khan and his wife Bushra Bibi to refrain from speaking against important institutions and judiciary of Pakistan. An accountability court in Islamabad passed the order on Thursday (April 25).

According to the Pakistani media Dawn, the court also urged the media not to publish the “political or sensational” comments made by the former Prime Minister of Pakistan and his wife.

While disposing of a petition seeking a fair trial in the Al-Qadir Trust case, the court’s judge Rana Nasir Javed ordered Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran and his wife to speak against the ‘establishment’.

The court order said that Imran Khan had made political statements against the senior officials of various state institutions including the army, the judiciary, etc. This has not only damaged the dignity of the judiciary but also hampered the judicial process like delivery of justice.

At this time, the court requested the legal team, Imran Khan and his wife and their counsel to refrain from making political or provocative statements that could disturb the dignity of the court.

Imran Khan, accused in multiple cases, is lodged in Adiala Jail in Rawalpindi. On January 31 this year, Imran Khan and his wife were sentenced to imprisonment by the special anti-corruption court in Islamabad in the Toshakhana corruption case.

In addition to the prison sentence, the court also disqualified Imran Khan and his wife from holding any public office for the next 10 years. Along with that, the court also ordered to pay a fine of about 79 million Pakistani rupees. Recently (April 1) the Islamabad High Court suspended the sentence of Imran Khan and his wife Bushra Bibi in the Toshakhana corruption case.

On February 1, just days before the national elections, another court sentenced the two to seven more years in prison in a case related to the marriage of Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi. Prior to these two cases, Imran Khan and his government’s foreign minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi were sentenced to 10 years in jail in the Saifar case.
