Police baton charge at BCL concert in Rajshahi

Rajshahi Metropolitan BCL organized a concert at Rajshahi College ground to celebrate the 64th founding anniversary of BCL. About ten thousand people from Rajshahi and surrounding areas, including leaders and activists, gathered. Police closed the main gate of the college to stop the crowd.

During this time many people try to get inside through the top of the wall and tension is created outside. Later the police were forced to charge the baton. The incident took place at the main entrance of the college around 9 pm on Tuesday (January 4).

A policeman on duty at the concert said that there was a huge crowd at Rajshahi College centering on the concert. There is no place to store sesame in the field. Some of the young men and women are entering on the roof, some on the trees and many on the top of the gate wall. The gate was closed to handle the crowd. When the gate was closed and there was tension and bad situation outside, the police used batons to handle the situation.

The police member said that the police commissioner also came to the spot to keep the situation normal and now the situation is under control. He claimed that no one was injured in the incident.

On the occasion of the founding anniversary, ‘Untitled Band’ along with local artists were brought to the college ground concert organized by Rajshahi Metropolitan Chhatra League. People from different parts of the city have been coming to Rajshahi College since the evening for the concert.

Earlier in the afternoon, AHM Khairuzzaman Liton, a presidium member of the Awami League and Rasik Mayor, and Dr. A.S. Anika Fariha Zaman Arna cut the cake and celebrated the founding anniversary of Chhatra League. The chief guest and other leaders including the president and general secretary of Rajshahi metropolitan Chhatra League also spoke on the occasion.

In this regard, the general secretary of the metropolitan student said. Sirajum Mubin Sabuj said, on the occasion of the 64th founding anniversary of Chhatra League, various programs were held throughout the day. Meetings, rallies and joyous processions have been organized as part of it. Concerts are organized to entertain the latest leaders and activists. The ‘Untitled Band’ performers take to the stage after 9:30 pm.

Regarding the chaos, he said that some spectators tried to enter the top of the wall outside the gate of the college to listen to the songs of the country’s famous band stars. The police intervened and brought the situation under control. However, the leader claimed that no untoward incident had taken place.

Asked about the overcrowded crowd and the baton charge, Boalia Police Officer-in-Charge (OC) Nirbaran Chandra Barman said thousands of people had come to the college grounds for the concert. This crowd for the country’s famous band ‘Untitled’. The youths have been prevented from coming to the top of the wall to prevent any untoward incident in the extra crowd.
