The casualties in the fire are one of the worst examples of misrule: Fakhrul

Due to the lack of democracy and rule of law, the power of miscreants exists everywhere. There is no plague of rules and regulations anywhere. And that is why innocent passengers have to give their lives. The heartbreaking incident of casualties in this fire is one of the worst examples of misrule. I wish forgiveness and peace to the souls of those who were burnt in the launch of MV Expedition-10 last night. I wish immediate recovery to the seriously injured.

In another statement, the BNP secretary general said the chargesheet had been filed in the name of BNP National Standing Committee member Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury in Chittagong for political motives. The chargesheet was filed three years ago on false charges of inciting safe movement. This is a well-planned plot to completely defeat the BNP leaders. In the name of law and order, the government has been gradually restricting the rights and freedoms of the people.

The present government wants to keep the opposition, including the BNP, doomed with the dirty tricks of lawsuits and attacks. The government is now filing false cases and giving chargesheets in the name of BNP leaders including Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury as it considers itself in danger. The government’s mattress is now shaky. Respecting public opinion, they should step aside right now. This detached government will never be able to suppress the fighting unity, determination and heroism of the people. The victory of the people is inevitable. I condemn and protest against the issuance of politically motivated chargesheet in the name of BNP National Standing Committee member Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury in Chittagong and urge immediate withdrawal of false charges including chargesheet.

It may be mentioned that a terrible fire broke out in the Sugandha river at around 3 am on Thursday from the engine of the launch MV Abhiyan-10 bound for Barguna from Dhaka. Many people have been burnt in it. The condition of many of them is critical. So far, fire service personnel have recovered 40 bodies. The launch had about 300 to 300 passengers. Coastguard members are conducting a rescue operation.
