Veteran journalist, former city editor of Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha (BSS) Shamsul Alam Belal has been buried in the family graveyard at Chauddagram in Comilla.
The second janaza of Shamsul Alam Belal after Asr was held on Monday (February 8) at the premises of Ludiara Jame Mosque in Batisa union of Chauddagram upazila of Comilla, his village home.
Editors of various local newspapers of Comilla, political personalities, journalists of different print and electronic media, people from different walks of life took part in the janaza.
After Janaza, he was buried next to his parents’ grave in the family graveyard.
Earlier, after the first janaza at the National Press Club at 12 noon, his journalist colleagues paid their last respects to him. Abul Kalam Azad, Managing Director and Editor-in-Chief of Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha (BASS), Iqbal Sobhan Chowdhury, Former Information Adviser to the Prime Minister, Manjurul Ahsan Bulbul, Former President of BFUJ, Omar Farooq, President of BFUJ, Abdul Jalil Bhuiyan, Former Secretary General. Former President of Unity Shafiqul Karim Sabu, General Secretary of DUJ Sajjad Alam Khan Tapu, Treasurer of BFUJ Khairuzzaman Kamal, General Secretary of National Press Club Ilias Khan, General Secretary of Dhaka Reporters Unity Nurul Islam Hasib and other leaders.
After the janaza, Shamsul Alam Belal was felicitated with flowers at the National Press Club under the leadership of President Farida Yasmin. Besides, Bangladesh Federal Union of Journalists-BFUJ, Dhaka Union of Journalists-DUJ, Dhaka Reporters Unity-DRU and Comilla Journalists Forum, Dhaka paid homage to his body with flowers.
After Janaza at the National Press Club, the body of Shamsul Alam Belal was taken to his village home in Ludiara village of Batisa union in Chauddagram upazila of Comilla.
Journalist Shamsul Alam Belalmara visited Ibrahim Cardiac Hospital in the capital at 2pm on Sunday. He had been ill for a long time due to a heart attack. He was 74 years old. He is survived by his wife, two daughters and numerous relatives, colleagues and admirers.
Shamsul Alam Belal was born on 15 April 1956 in Chauddagram, Comilla. He joined BSS on July 8, 1981 and retired on April 15, 2020. During his long career at Bass, he served as online editor, city editor and commercial editor.
