US Ambassador to Dhaka, Peter Haas, said that the US’s goal is not to interfere in the upcoming national elections of Bangladesh, but to support free and fair elections and thereby allow the people to choose their leaders.

He said this at a function at North South (NSU) University in the capital on Thursday (September 21).
“We stand ready to help ensure a free, fair and peaceful election to ensure that the people can freely choose their leaders,” Peter Haas said.
Regarding the Rohingya crisis, the US ambassador said that it is the collective responsibility of the entire world to ensure that the situation in Myanmar is created so that the Rohingyas can return to their motherland with dignity. The United States is deeply committed to peace in Bangladesh and South Asia, especially to resolving the Rohingya crisis.
He indicated a US preference for diplomacy over military action. The US ambassador stressed on strengthening relations with important countries like Bangladesh.
He also noted that the US strategy in the Indo-Pacific region focuses on anti-corruption measures to strengthen confidence and economic growth.
