11 zebras did not die at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Safari Park in Gazipur; Gazipur-3 MP Iqbal Hossain Sabuj has claimed that they were killed.
He was speaking to reporters after a meeting with members of a committee set up by the Ministry of Environment, Forests and Climate Change to investigate the zebra’s death at noon on Sunday (January 30th).
MP Sabuj said the zebras were killed to trap each other as forest officials had differences among themselves. This is murder. A case may be filed in this regard.
He said a tiger had died in the safari park on the 12th of this month. No one knows. So many valuable animals are dying but the park authorities are hiding it. There were 10 tigers in the park, but after the death of one male tiger, now there are 9 tigers.
He told the members of the inquiry committee that a proper investigation was not possible by keeping the zebras under their care. The other employees of the park will not dare to open their mouths. He asked Jahidul Kabir, project director of the park, and Tabibur Rahman, officer-in-charge, to resign.
The members of the investigation committee who visited the site are: Sanjay Kumar, Additional Secretary, Ministry of Environment, Forests and Climate Change; Mohammad Monirul Hasan Khan.
Additional Secretary at the Ministry of Environment, Forests and Climate Change Sanjay Kumar Bhowmik said nothing could be said about the matter before the investigation was completed. I have nothing to say about the removal of officers. It is a matter of administration.
The project director confirmed the death of a male tiger in the park on January 12. Jahidul Kabir said that samples of the tiger have been collected and sent for lab tests but no report has been received yet.
However, he avoided the issue when asked why the information about the death of the tiger was not disclosed at that time.
